THE CONSCIOUSLY PARENTING ACADEMY

Consciously Parenting is the "how-to" for the thinking parent in day to day life: Information, Education, Support, and Community to help you find your way - through Respectful, Responsive Parenting.

The Consciously Parenting Academy focuses on Four Central Themes:

  • Consciously Creating Community
  • Decoding Your Child's Behavior
  • Decoding Your Own Behavior
  • Finding Balance in Life

Consciously Parenting is here to help you Find (or Create) Community, Decode Behaviors (Yours and Theirs), and Find Balance so you can enjoy Love, Joy, Playfulness, and Connection as a Respectful, Responsive Parent in Your Every Day Family Life. Consciously Parenting isn’t about “perfect parenting,” it is about parenting in a way that feels good to you and to your family, in real life.

Consciously Creating Community: We talk about Returning to the Gifts of the Village without abandoning modern life, Gifts of the Continuum Concept (based on the important work of Jane Liedloff), Under-Supported Families (what they are and how we can make it better), Family Members Who Just Don't Understand your parenting and Creating Your Own Supportive Family to help you find your own way. But most importantly, we create a community of support online that you can model in your own life.

Decoding Kids' Behaviors: We look at your children’s behaviors that you just don't understand or know how to respond to. You'll learn how to understand your child's story - the story in their bodies and nervous systems that they can’t tell you - and what that has to do with their behavior. We learn about what attachment is and why it matters throughout the life-span. We learn how to repair relationships when things don't go the way you want them to go or when overwhelming things happen. We also talk about how to set healthy boundaries and handle feelings with love and care to help your children become emotionally resilient.

Decoding Your Behaviors: And then there's you. As a member of The Consciously Parenting Academy, you learn to understand your own story, specifics about adult attachment and what that means in your current life. We talk about how to handle your own feelings and overwhelm; and the importance of self-care. We take a look at your relationship with your parents and family and how they affect your behavior, as well as how to handle family members who don't understand why you parent the way you do.

Finding Balance: (An ongoing challenge for all of us!) In this area we talk about mindfulness in parenting and for children, living a simpler life (and why that is important) and finding a balance with technology (both for ourselves and our children).

The best part is that, as a full member of The Consciously Parenting Academy you are able to connect to other families who are also on their own journey - in an environment where you can find your way without judgment. We welcome all parents looking to parent more respectfully and will help you explore what is best for you and your family. As a member of the Consciously Parenting Academy, you do not find any one-sized-fits-all approaches, but rather the guidance, support and love you need to help you find your own way for your unique family. Additionally, Academy members receive direct access to Rebecca, who facilitates group calls, which adds an extra layer of support for your family without the cost of on-going sessions.

Below are some of our monthly themes and you'll gain immediate access to them when you join. The calls are yours to download and keep, along with any of the other downloadable resources. In addition, you'll also receive support of a community of other like-minded parents to help you navigate parenting in a gentle way from the comfort of home!

healthyeating

-Recording with Ryanna Battiste: "How Food Can Hurt or Heal Us"

-Q&A's on your questions about your kids and food in real life

sleep

SLEEP!! In the month of February, we talked about Helping Everyone to Sleep Better, from the littlest ones to the big people.

You'll receive:

-Our recording with Mar Oscategui of the International Maternity and Parenting Institute: "Gentle Ways to Help Your Child Sleep Better" for a holistic look at the many factors that influence sleep. Yours to download and keep.

-Sleep e-booklet to download with inspiring stories and facts to help you find your own way.

getmoving

Let's Get Moving! In March, we talked about how to help your child to MOVE!

You'll receive:

-"Let's Get Moving!" recording with Larry Cohen of Playful Parenting helps us connect with each other and avoid power struggles!

-Bethany Springer talked with us about our own "Movement Mindset" and how to make changes there to support ourselves and our families (in doable, bite-sized pieces that I found lovely)

-Kate White of APPPAH spoke to us about patterns of movement beginning in the womb and movement for repair as children grow. A must listen to call for expectant and new parents, but great for all of us to understand our child's story of movement.

Attachment In April, we talked about Attachment Parenting and how that's different from Attachment Theory and the myths of attachment.

You'll receive:

- 7 part video series covering the practical aspects of healthy relationships, including understanding your child's behaviors and expressions of feelings through an attachment lens, understanding your own behaviors and how to handle your own emotional upsets, how to support your child's big feelings, and how to create, nurture and heal connection in your family in daily life through a series of practical tips.

-Interview with Lysa Parker, co-founder of Attachment Parenting International, about their book, Attached at the Heart.

What parents are saying about The Academy:

"What a gift it is to participate in a circle filled with so much heart and acceptance. The validation and empathy I receive when I share is phenomenal. However, the gift I receive from listening is even more powerful.

As I listen, I hear my story in the stories of others. It allows my heart to crack open again and again, as I integrate the shared story. Thank you Rebecca for holding this space. My life is forever changed."  -Rachel, Oregon, USA

"Healing Story Circles are unlike any other support system or resource I've ever experienced - - and trust me, I've experienced many! The repair work that can happen in community with others who are listening to you and supporting you as you share deep fears, concerns, struggles, or even joys, are unparalleled in any other situation. Being with a group of people who are there to lend a supportive shoulder and an understanding ear can really help when you are feeling alone. The presence of multiple people rather than just one to listen to your current story and reflect back to you what you have communicated is invaluable. The good feelings that result just can't be imagined until you experience it. I'd encourage everyone to at least try it just once -- even if sounds scary or you're not sure what it will be like -- and see what you think." -Meredith, California, USA

“I always had a vision of the parent I wanted to be, but unfortunately it did not match the parent I was. Childhood influences combined with big stressors in my life and stretched me so far away from my ideal vision, that I was desperate for help. I knew I wanted to be calmer with my kids. My daughter is very sensitive and her emotional outbursts were so upsetting to me that I reacted in unhelpful ways that would actually scare me (and her) and make me feel guilty for behaving in ways that were in direct opposition from what I wanted. Why couldn’t I change? Reading books about what to do wasn’t enough. I was suffering, and my family was suffering. I knew I needed help. Luckily for all of us, I met Rebecca started working with her. The ideas she gave me were both individualized and research-based. I felt truly heard and supported, not judged or misunderstood. I shudder to think what my family would be like today if I hadn’t done this important and transformational work with Rebecca. I am still a work in progress, but I truly believe in the path I’m on today, thanks to her. I am able to keep my self calm and connect with my children, even when they are melting down (which is far less often now that I’m not melting down too!). I would recommend Rebecca and The Consciously Parenting Project to any and all parents who may be deeply struggling but who are ready and willing to step into the highest version of themselves as parents. Thank you, Rebecca!” -Bethany, Ohio, USA
